Looking over the horizon to the upcoming year in Sykophunk, I am super excited about the things we have in store! Starting this weekend, a series of joe DOE videos called “Acapellocalypse” begins – one video every week for 15 weeks on the official Sykophunk Youtube channel. Battle plans are in the works for recording and production of two long-overdue projects: a full-length album from BL8 and the Democalypse trilogy prequel, Happocrisy. Later in the year, we will be releasing another instrumental album of soundtrack music, Haunted Moods, as well as an EP from Project D.O.T.A. version 2.0 – wait until you hear the sick transformation this group is undergoing! And by the end of 2016, maybe I will have even finished one of the new books I am working on.

So yeah, as we slip back into the shadows and do our ninja work, do not be mistaken… there is more epic artcore formulating in the lab! Stay connected to the rEvolution Underground by following #Sykophunk on Facebook, Twitter, and of course our official website.

This has been a great year for Sykophunk Productions, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of the people who believe in what we do. If you took the time to read this, you are probably one of those awesome people. Thank you so much for showing a completely independent, 100% underground label and its creative artists some love. The world needs more of that. Stick with us in 2016, and I promise we’ll deliver our best work yet!

Believe it or not, 2015 is almost over. It is that time of year again when I look back and reflect on the last 365 days of my life. I think I can honestly say (for the first time probably ever), “This year was awesome!” I truly feel that 2015 was nothing but good to me in all ways: personally, academically, and professionally. Did everything go 100% perfectly? Of course not. But I am closer to all of my goals, in a good place mentally, and free of all toxic people in my life and company. That is the definition of “winning” to me.

I know some people thought I was putting Sykophunk Productions on the back burner since I returned to school, but all that noise was laid to rest this past year. We dropped 5 releases in 2015: 3 instrumental collections (Abandoned, Emotional Moods, and Cinematic Moods), Third Eye Open by joe DOE & of course the long overdue mixtape EP from Project D.O.T.A. entitled The End is Near as well as a single called “The Devil Within.” Finally got some Sykophunk shirts made! We did very few shows this year, but on Halloween we came out to rock the stage at Carnevil, and then we slipped back into the shadows. This case study file on joe DOE surfaced recently. Oh yeah, and I worked on a couple tracks for an upcoming film.

All of that, and I got almost straight As in school (I got one B – damn you Math, my Achilles Heel!). And kept my relationship with my awesome and supportive girlfriend 🙂

It is not easy to dig your way out of the ditch you were thrown in, and it is often even more difficult to keep your personal demons in check. I am living proof, however, that it can be done. My plan is to keep on moving forward and continue using my creative outlets to make art that can entertain and sometimes enlighten others. What is in store next for Sykophunk Productions? Check back next week when I post about our plans for next year…

Project D.O.T.A. #TheEndIsNear is now available! You can stream and/or download the digital tracks from the Sykophunk bandcamp page or order it on CD from the Sykophunk Store. BOOM! Oh yeah, and here’s a preview of joe DOE’s upcoming bad ass mixtape dropping next month on Friday the 13th:

One more week and the new release from Sykophunk Productions drops! Project D.O.T.A. featuring BL8 and joe DOE – redefining horrorcore. It’s sad but true that even in the most underground & local levels, a lot of artists these days rely too much on gimmicks and already done formulas. The market is saturated with staleness. We’re choosing quality over quantity and putting out dark music that speaks about true terror… mostly 😉 Not that “we sing about murder and scary stuff, ain’t we cool” bullshit that’s been done to death. This project has a theme and a message – I’m proud of this release and can’t wait to share it with yall!

In my last post 5 days ago, I gave a brief glimpse into my 2015 plans for Sykophunk Productions. Truth is, I wasn’t yet sure what I could realistically expect to accomplish. But now I am! In fact, Sykophunk is going to drop 3 releases in 3 months. Yeah, we’re making up for lost time. Here’s what to keep your third eye open for in the near future:

1. Abandoned. I originally created this video series based on the true terror of the Hudson River State Hospital, with the help of Ryan McClellan of New Breed Media, in 2011. I also composed a 15-track album of instruMentals for it that never received a proper release. So I am going to kind of re-release it, this time as both a digital album and as a physical 2-disc set. This is set for January 24. Most of the original videos are still on Youtube.

2. Project D.O.T.A.The End Is Near. What can I say? We were supposed to have this done by Halloween, but then life happened. It’s all good though. The tracks were given enough time to come out the way they’re supposed to, and now I have actually officially begun mixing the final products. My partner in crime, BL8, and I are about to redefine horrorcore music with this one. Release date is Febuary 13 – check out the bad ass new teaser video!

3. joe DOE – new solo stuff. After recently going through all of the demos I recorded last year, I realized that I am one song away from having 9 tracks on my hand. So I’m going to put that together and make it available, probably in March.

Stay tune to the rEvolution Underground for all this epic awesomeness and more…

If there’s one thing I can say about 2014, it definitely had highs and lows. Personally, I had some serious struggles early on in the year in the form of a near death experience, followed quickly by my forced departure from Triple Vision and an 18-year friendship, and then came all of the legal and financial repercussions of my poor decisions. And all of this while dealing with adjusting to sobriety.

There were times when I wanted to cave in and crumple up. But with the help and support of my awesome girlfriend and a handful of die-hard Sykophunk believers, I did not fall – I fought instead. Paid all my legal crap, completed 16 weeks of counseling, got my old day job back, paid off my defaulted school loan, went back to school full-time and got straight A’s in every class my first semester. BOOM! Considering the odds, I did amazing things. And I’m not bragging. I’m just saying that if I can do it, then so can anyone else that truly puts their mind to it.

And through it all, I somehow managed to work on new music, slowly but surely. I did enough shows in the summer and fall to introduce Sykophunk’s newest act, Project D.O.T.A. We also made several television appearances, and BL8 did some collabs and kept rocking stages into the winter. Life didn’t allow things to go as planned, but our determination and love for what we do assured that things did happen.

2014 was the first year since the inception of Sykophunk Productions that I didn’t release a new album, EP or mixtape. A few new songs surfaced at shows, online and as bonus tracks on the collection Random Acts of Epic Awesomeness. But it’s all good – as of this date, both joe DOE and Project D.O.T.A. are one song away from new releases. And we already have material partially written for other projects. There will be no shortage of tracks for 2015. And we shall deliver them with the raw and cerebral Sykophunk style – as life permits, of course 😉

I’ll be working on a new site for Project D.O.T.A. as well as updating sykophunk.com this coming week. We’ll be doing multiple weekly promotions on our social media pages, including instruMental Mondays, Throwback Thursdays and Sykophunk Saturdays. So keep your third eye open for awesomeness both new and old.

One final note on this look back & forward: if you actually took the time to read all of this, chances are that you are one of the few true supporters of Sykophunk, the music & the message plus the people… You kick major ass! Thank you so much for sticking with us, believing in the audacity of insanity a.k.a. true underground and independent methods. Real doom music, lol, but with positivity and truth hidden in the darkness. Despite the ups and downs, every year that we can do what we love to do is an amazing blessing! Here’s to another one…
